Got a few new releases from RovyVon, and they’re pretty cool. An updated GL4 Pro, and even more exciting: the GL5 Pro with the GS4 tapswitch!
This one is going to take some explaining, so hang on tight and click that read more button.
RovyVon has just released a refreshed version of the GL4 Pro for the same $300 price. If you read my review of the GL4 Pro, you know that it’s my hands-down choice for an IR aiming solution for a pistol, and even smaller PCCs.

The refresh has a few very welcome improvements:
- Improved mode selection lever with pull-down horseshoe/ring that’s easier to manipulate in the dark and with gloves.
- Push for momentary levers (the side to side is now entirely constant-on).
- Adjustable rail lug (which should make it more usable on some pistols)
There’s also some sort of improvement to the turrets list, albeit it’s not entirely obvious what they did (finer adjustment clicks would be appreciated, certainly). I’m sure I’ll wind up picking up another of these, and I’ll make sure to post my thoughts when I do.
While the GL4 Pro refresh is exciting, the real news is the GL5 Pro and GS4 tapeswitch.

The GL5 Pro appears to be a product-improved GL4 Pro. The illuminator bezel sticks out less, the battery is now side-mounted (which should go pretty far in improving battery reliability), the selector is on its own side (which should make it easier to use in the dark), and it appears to incorporate the improvements made in the refreshed GL4 Pro (described above). I wouldn’t run out to replace my existing GL4 Pros with it – especially since you may have holster compatibility issues due to moving away from the XVL2 form factor, and it’s probably not compatible with the VWS EFL – but if I had something a super short PCC like a Flux Raider, this would probably work quite nicely on it. Maybe more to the point, now RovyVon has an MFAL which isn’t a straight clone.
The GS4 is also very exciting – it’s a GL4 Pro compatible remote switch that provides a Crane connector, all at the $40 price point. For reference, the RSR-SR07 is $80.

I have some quibbles here – I would have preferred a Surefire connector option as well, and the form factor isn’t optimal (no MLOK mount option, and the bolts sorta stick out). But it doesn’t take away much from how we now have a cheap remote switch option for the GL4/5 Pro, and it can integrate into other MFAL and light setups. For example, if you wanted a more powerful white light, you could pair this with a GL4 Pro and a Holosun RAID and get a very tidy solution for under $600.
Now, one more thing: RovyVon also teased the GL8 Pro tactical light in the product page for the GS4.

This appears to a mode selectable tactical light that presumably lets you choose between IR, UV, and hopefully white light. It also seems to incorporate a Crane remote port tailcap. Personally, I have no idea why they’d have a UV light mode, and hope they ditch it, but a quality M600V alternative that took 18650s or 18350s would be absolutely excellent. The problem I’ve seen thus far with Vampire light knockoffs is that the IR tends to have a very obvious dim spot instead of a hot spot, so if they can deliver something that doesn’t at a good price point, it’ll be a hot seller.
