JV Innovations SBR Review

I recently procured an InfiRay RH25 (probably the last big purchase I’ll be making for a while!), and it’s a fantastic jack-of-all-trades thermal device for $3500. It can handle the following functionality:

  1. Clip-On
  2. Weapon Sight
  3. Helmet-Mount
  4. Handheld

Personally, I bought it for the hand-held and clip-on functionality, albeit the possibility of helmet-mounting it does appeal for the future. Even though you can use the included dedicated weapon mount for getting it on a rifle, this basically makes the RH25 unusable for handheld and helmet-mount use cases. The preference by the user community is to install a dovetail-style adapter (similar to what you’d use with binocular night vision) to the RH25 so it can quickly be detached and used in different functions. While the dovetail adds a touch of size and weight, it’s negligible.

Wolf 145gr .300 AAC Blackout Ammo Review

My friends at the TargetBarn company – an online ammo and targets retailer – apparently thought that my previous review of Federal Syntech 130gr “PCC” 9mm ammo was not the worst thing in the world that they had ever read, and offered to sponsor another ammo review. We went back and forth for a bit, because it’s the ammo crisis, and I also didn’t really know what anyone would find interesting. Boring reviews don’t help them, and they don’t help you.

Poking around, I noted that they had some of the 145gr Wolf .300 AAC Blackout ammo. Despite my previous assertions that .300 AAC Blackout is a caliber with no real mission, I had built out a cheap-ish upper anyways because Wolf had (or would have) cheap steel-cased ammo, and I’m a sucker for such things. They agreed to provide some for review. Well, smash-cut to September 2021, and that cheap ammo is not looking so likely anymore. Now we have a different question: should you stock up on a bunch of this before it’s gone?

X95 SBR Parts Now Available

If you’re in a state that allows SBRs AND you’re an X95 owner, your ship has come in.

IWI-US has announced on Facebook that the X95 short foregrip and thin buttplate are now available. The 13.5″ barrel is still on the way, but a 3″ chop from 16.5″ is unlikely to require much in the way of gas system changes. The resulting gun will not look exactly like a mil-spec X95, but it’ll definitely be a lot closer. Be warned that putting the thin buttplate on a stock 16.5″ X95 will turn it into an SBR, as it will no longer make the 26″ OAL limit.

Now, where’s the Galil ACE and Uzi Pro SBR kits? 🙂
